Journalist is threatened in Altamira while covering layoffs at Belo Monte gate

The Federal Prosecution office in Altamira received a complaint on Monday (12/12) of death threats against journalist Ruy Sposati, who works for the movement Xingu Alive Forever and was accompanying layoffs of workers of the enterprise that will build the Belo Monte gate.

The threats took place soon after the reporter had arrived at the company offices. He had heard that police officers were going along with the workers to be fired from the construction site to the office. According to Sposati, a man in a silver van approached aggressively and ahouted "I´ll kill you right now".

After he identified himself as a journalist, the man tried to rip the camera from the hands of Sposati. The confusion only ended with the interference of the workers themselves who waited for payment of contract terminations. The men of the police did not intervene.
