Abraji manifesta solidariedade ao ICFJ

A Abraji enviou hoje carta à presidente do International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) em que manifesta apoio à Organização. O ICFJ vem sendo alvo de investigações perpetradas por autoridades egípcias. A acusação é de que a instituição, juntamente com outras Organizações Não-Governamentais, atua no país sem licença.

Cinco membros da equipe do ICFJ são diretamente acusados da ilegalidade.

A presidente Joyce Barnathan diz que sua maior preocupação é com o bem-estar da equipe alocada no Egito.

The Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism (ABRAJI) is concerned with the investigation conducted  by Egyptian authorities against the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).

According to the president of the American organization, Joyce Barnathan, five people at their team have been named in the case - three Americans, including the vice president of ICFJ programs, Patrick Butler, and two Egyptians. The latter have also been charged, and their welfare is of greatest concern.

Abraji would like to express its sympathy and support for the organization, remarkably because ICFJ also works to establish higher standards of journalistic practice.

O Egito tem vivido um período de grande turbulência política desde o início do ano passado. Uma série de protestos populares culminou com a renúncia do ditador Hosni Mubarak em fevereiro de 2011.

Após a queda de Mubarak (que ocupava o poder havia 30 anos), uma junta militar assumiu o controle do país. Atualmente, o Egito experimenta novo crescente de agitações populares contra o governo, acusado de repressivo e censor.
