Abraji and Talanoa Extend Reporting Grant Applications Until January 10
Abraji and Instituto Talanoa have extended until January 10 the applications for the second round of reporting grants for the project "A Today and a Tomorrow with Climate Adaptation." The initiative seeks to encourage in-depth journalistic coverage on the topic of climate adaptation, focusing on reports that connect the advances and outcomes of COP30 to national and local policies across different contexts and regions around the world.
At COP30, climate adaptation gained prominence in negotiations, with discussions on the global goal on adaptation, national adaptation targets and plans, as well as a new financing goal aimed primarily at developing countries. These topics reinforce the role of national and local policies in responding to climate impacts.
At the same time, the decisions left questions open, especially regarding the implementation of adaptation targets by country and how developed countries will fulfill their commitment to provide technical and financial support to the most vulnerable countries. This context increases the relevance of reports that follow up on the developments of COP30 in the field.
About the Program:
The program offers nine reporting grants, valued at R$ 5,500 for productions in Brazil and US$ 1,000 for international reports. Applications are open to journalists from Brazil, Asia, and Europe and can be submitted in Portuguese or English. The first three grants have already been awarded. Therefore, there is still time to apply for one of the six remaining grants.
Check out the training sessions conducted in Portuguese and in English.
The grant program is intended for coverage of the outcomes of COP30 negotiations and their impacts on national and local policies, from angles that put human stories into perspective in the face of new climate event challenges, with publications expected by February 2026. The goal is to encourage reports of general interest — rather than technical analyses — that connect COP30 advances in climate adaptation to national agendas.
As part of the project, grantees may be invited to record short videos after publication, commenting on the reports produced, as a complementary step of the initiative.
