Abraji and Instituto Talanoa announce selected journalists for Phase 2 of climate adaptation reporting grants

The Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) and Instituto Talanoa announce this Monday (Jan. 19th, 2026) the list of journalists selected for the second phase of the reporting grant project “A Today and a Tomorrow with Climate Adaptation”.

This phase of the call for proposals received over 50 applications from professionals from different regions of Brazil, including Acre, Pará, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul, as well as international candidates from Bangladesh, China, India, Italy, Pakistan, Portugal, Spain, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The selection committee, composed of Abraji directors and its team, as well as Instituto Talanoa experts, chose six proposals that stood out for their public relevance, feasibility, and alignment with the COP30 adaptation agenda.

The themes proposed by the applicants highlight the urgency of the climate crisis in different contexts: from water resource management in arid zones and the impact of flooding in coastal and urban areas, to the monitoring of international funds and the implementation of nature-based solutions in indigenous and extractive territories.

The grantees will receive financial support and technical mentoring to develop their investigations, with publication scheduled for the end of February 2026.
